First Winter Storm

Warm Summer days have gone away.
It seems like a distant memory, when skies were bright, temperatures warm, and the threat of snow not a worry.

It's been like this me for over fifty years, and yet each year I dread the onset of Winter.

This morning was a time for cooler temperatures, freezing rain and heavy snow. I made myself venture out into the frenzy which is the driving experience this time of year.

It never ceases to amaze me how invinsible some vehicle owners think they are, especially the larger truck owners who possess four wheel drive. Why they think that will prevent them from sliding, I'll never understand.

I'm always afraid of their stopping power. I just hope my defensive driving will prepare me for people who drive like idiots!

I did witness the driver next to me rear end someone.

I'm so glad I had a productive day with no incidents! I kept my wipers clean, my windshield free of snow, and my eyes peeled, along with steady hand and foot.

It was interesting walking though. It felt like I was walking through sand!

Hopefully the roads will be plowed and sanded. The sidewalks shoveled and safe. I look forward to a fresh start tomorrow, with a reprieve from the blowing snow!

Stay safe, Winters here.

Social Media

There are so many ways we can communicate with each other.

It used to be we just picked up the phone to chat,
or we just visited each other

With the new advances in technology we can now communicate with the touch of a button. It's easier than ever to "reach out and touch someone"

I had a Twitter account, but deactivated it. I was concerned about the safety within such a public site.
I had the unique name and password, but with all the hackers out there, gaining access to even supposed secure sites, I began to worry about the safety of each and every one of us!

How much can someone find out about you, even when you have no information on your sites? Can they track your computer?

These are all serious concerns I have, and before I become so exposed that I feel at risk I will stay away.

I need the advise of my computer-literate family!

Have a wonderful day!

Injustice

I have always believed in our justice system. You tell the truth and prove that truth, and you'll be rewarded.

We did not get what we wanted today. We're entitled to it, but we must wait even longer.

I do not know how to handle this one. It cuts deep inside, and my faith is being tested. After much prayer for a better outcome I am faced with "why"?

I don't like asking why, because I trust
in my Heavenly Father. He has a plan, and I know it's for our own good...yet why can't this just be resolved? The stress is sometimes unbearable, and we're left with unanswered questions...and injustice!

I pray for a better outcome next time, and peace during our struggle to come to terms with all of this.

Please pray for us!

I'll walk with you one day
on winding nature's path
where birds do sing
and flowers grow.
We'll hike through mountain pass,
and cross to crystal sea.

There we'll sit awhile
and breathe the salty air.
Soft breezes flow
through tousled wavy locks.

The ships pass by,
their tall and stately masts
sailing fro
to distant shores.

We'll watch the ocean swells,
each rippling splash
in playful dance
at our feet.

We'll hear the children laugh
in glee,
their faces all aglow.
For life is never ending
and joy, to overflow.

We'll walk one day,
for Father's there.
His promise true.
He's waiting for us there.

Untitled

I feel you in the Summer
breeze
light and sweet
like June.

I see your playful hand, a
a trickling in the brook.
The trees, their dancing leaves.

I hear the birds, your song they sing
a perfect harmony.

I see the sky,
your bluest bluest eyes in it.
The sometimes black and
stormy swirl,
that sets the torrent rain.

I hear your voice,
through playful glee,
the children's innocence.

The puppy's fur,
the whimpering cry
"please carry me, please carry me!"

I feel your hand on tear-stained
cheek,
soft as satin, your caress.

Your wise and soulful word.

I see your vibrant colors,
your soul like fragrant petals.
a rose, or any other flower
in a garden up above.

Now sleep,
just sleep, my angel
in Father's loving arms.

Dream and play and sing,
and be that Summer breeze.

Each scent I smell,
each brook I hear
I'll feel you everywhere.

-Dedicated to Mom on her burial day.

Rest in Peace...

Courtesy

I was driving along a very busy stretch of road yesterday afternoon. Everything was running smoothly. We were in a contruction zone, and people were obeying the laws of traffic, and were quite courteous!

The light that some of us were waiting at turned green, some were waiting to turn left in front of us...we wanted to go straight.

Then it happened, and I'm not surprised at all by this, but I'm so appalled by this. A City bus took it upon himself to cut off a single line of traffic that had the right of way!

Horns blew, and to no avail, he just continued on...

This was way beyond discouteous, it was dangerous driving as far as I'm concerned, but clearly he did not care!

I know of a lady who was hit by a bus while on her way home. After much cost of litigation, and numerous medical bills, all the city had to say was "didn't you see the bus coming?" In other words, it was her fault for not seeing the bus driver break the law!

Bottom line is, be courteous, and allow for other people in traffic and life, and don't stomp on people to get ahead!

Wilma

Wilma was my very best friend in the world. Fourty Three years ago we met. We were both shy but curious little girls. Wilma with her bouncing red curls. Her eyes always so bright and full of life, her smile! Her freckles...the cutest, most beautiful feature when she was little!

I don't remember much about our first meeting, but I was told we were both hiding behind our dads.

She came from a picturesque town called Agazzi nestled in a valley within rolling hills and mountains in BC. It wasn't till years later when I realized just how beautiful Agazzi is, with that green grass, and the black and white dairy cows that frolicked there.

Her father was a pastor, and as such, they lived in Michigan for awhile, then to Agazzi, and then to Calgary. My father was a Deacon in the church, so he wanted to welcome the family. I was just excited to have met my new friend!

Wilma and I had many good times together. We rode our bikes to school, we went to each others houses all the time, and we had many sleep-overs. I remember us playing dressup and house, at my house. We had our dollies and barbies who, of course, were our babies. We would pretend to visit other people. Our house was set up perfectly, so each bedroom door was a friend's house. We could also dress up in fancy things...shoes and purses, and of course the green eye shadow and red lipstick I "borrowed" from my mother. We had so much fun, and those shoes were so big on our feet! We were ladies after all, and we had places to go!

Sometimes we would make grass and dandelion stew.

We raised a lot of butterflies too! We never realized that they would change like that...so cool!

I remember, at her house the raking of leaves, I remember their cat...I remember so many things!

I remember the birthday parties! I remember the theater productions in their basement...I remember the forts!
I remember the piano...

I remember Tante Ina's amazing cooking! I remeber how crazy her parents were (and still are) about each other. Mostly I remember how at home I felt there. They were an extension of my own family!

I often felt lonely growing up. I didn't always fit well. I discoved through therapy that I was just scared! With Wilma I felt like I had a sister...someone I could feel comfortable with!

we grew up and each of us got married and had children. Alida is close in age to my son Chris. I remember her coming over when Lisa was born.

Time got by us so quickly, and with us living in two separate cities: me in Edmonton, and Wilma in Calgary...we lost touch for awhile.

I don't know what it is about phones...they are my phobia!
We seldom called, and life got in the way.

It wasn't untill later in her life that we reconnected...on facebook too, haha!
I'm just broken up that we missed put on so much time! We saw each other when I was in Calgary to visit my parents, and I saw one of her beautiful houses, but it wasn't the same!

I miss my friend, and realize how much I missed in our adulthood. She was a spectacular woman and friend. She'll always be in my heart, we'll always be facebook friends, haha!

I will always treasure her wisdom, her strength, even in the face of death, her amazing positive attitude...her advise about not worrying about things.

She really was, and still is our Mighty Mouse! Heaven has the most beautul
and precious angels within, and she sits with God.

Happy 50th my wonderful faithful friend! There will be a party for you in Heaven and on earth! We'll be celabrating you, as will the fellow angels...

Love you always,
Marj

Sunny days!

I'm so excited to see the sun! Oh how I've missed you our golden star!

It feels so warm on my skin, and the blue sky can shine through!

It's funny how the sun, and the warm weather, contribute to our moods. When it's cloudy, and especially cool, I for one feel blah...

A good example of this is Victoria.
As those of you who live there, it gets cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy...but it's warm! There's no snow that settles in for months and months, there are flowers year round, and the ocean is there. Needless to say, I love it rain or shine!

We're not so fortunate here. We see no sign of life until Spring, and I'm sure spring is here! With temperatures soaring to 13 degrees, life is good! I feel the strength of the sun, and soon buds will leaf...flowers will grow!

I can't wait! This sunny warm day has me singing thanks to our Lord and Father!

Cheers!

One of those Days

Have you ever had one of those dsys when you felt like you were in the "twillight zone"?

I had a good sleep, filled with a lot of action. I'd been on a motorbike ride last night and was still, sort of on the ride, and still visiting those friends!

I had the hardest time waking up, and so did my husband!

I've lost about an hour so far, although everything was completed on time this morning!

It's hard to explain, but it is a wierd day for sure!

Have a good one!

Anxiety

Have any of you ever felt anxious about anything? Lately I've felt under siege. I can see and feel the attack, but I cannot see my attacker.

I read this book called "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway". In it the author speaks of our "chatter boxes". These are little voices in our minds that sort of chatter.

We should all learn how to control our chatter boxes, for sometimes the chatter is a destructive force.

I've. been trying to lose weight. Before any of this can be accomplished we must allow ourselves to be imperfect, and just have the desire to be healthy, and in time, slimmer!

Here's where my chatter gets me. I often feel that my weight loss represents some failure in me. While I did indeed neglect what needed to be done, that certainly does not make me a personal failure does it?

Other things set me off, and I feel like that fly on the wall, watching me have a tantrum, or simply being angry or sad! I don't want to be like this. That fly has told me to tell my chatterbox to calm down.

I also need to read that book again! I need to be patient when things don't go my way, and to just go with the flow!

Have a great day!

Winter

Good Morning!

I awoke this morning to a large accumulation of snow. It's something we haven't seen in awhile, and while we need the moisture, it came as quite a shock!

This Winter has been a unique one. For many months after New Year's Day my husband and his friends were able to ride their motorcycles!

You can imagine the look of surprise, and the many "right ons!" from onlookers! I even filmed them as they proudly rode up and parked their bikes in succession! I was proud to be there!

I don't know if every Winter will be this glorious, but I will remember this one!
So...bring on the snow! Hopefully Spring and Summer will be memerable too!

Have a good and safe day!

Technology

I profess, I know little about technology so I generally "wing it".

Last night, with note in hand from my trusted "techie" friend, Iset out to download some apps from itunes into my ipad. I followed his instuctions, and
Did quite well at first. Everything transfered quite nicely, until ot came time to process my iphone. Before
I knew it, everything synced onto my iphone, and I mean everything! I deleted the extras, and accidentally
Deleted the app I wanted. I followed my same instructions, and, for some reason it did not work! I scolded the computer as if it could hear me, and then decided to deal with it later!

Later last evening I decided to work
Out on my technologocally advanced
Elyptical which, you guessed it, would not function properly!

This morning Facebook has imposed
A new format on me!

Oh well, one way or another, I am determined to learn this!

Have a wonderful (maybe even
Technological) day!

Friendship

I, like many others, value friendship. I try my hardest to be the best I can be, and give of myself as I'm able.

I've been through so much in the last few years. My parents passed way, my grand niece passed away, and my best
friend passed. I went through a divorce.

I lost myself somehow, and as a result, I cannot reach out like I used to, and I'm not as bubbly. I miss the old me!

I've had a lot of change with friendships too. I realize that people come and go, and we think about the good times.

I always wonder though, did I have a negative affect on these friendships, or is it just the winds of change blowing, as it were?

I miss the people from my past, and I can feel more changes coming. I hope it will be okay...

I want to leave you with this thought: be the best you can be, and don't take each other for granted!

Take care everyone!💐
